Chittering Valley Retreat

I was Father of the bride at my Daughter's wedding and many guests stayed at this retreat and have to say that this venue the worst we have ever stayed at.The place has so much potential, but is a very sad reflection of what it once might have been.It's difficult to know where to start as there are so many areas that need addressing, but the primary issue is one of very poor hygiene.The place is so run down and neglected, and among the main complaints is broken flyscreens, dirty cups, plates and cutlery, and there were mouse or other droppings around the place and also on some plates.Only one of the four shower/toilets had locks that locked, and also one was out of order with another blocked.The towels that were supplied in the showers were disgusting and a number of them were full of holes and were absolutely stinking.Another issue was that we were verbally given permission to use the lower field for some of our guests for camping, but when a couple of them had spent hours setting up, the owner's son told them that it was private property and they couldn't stay there.After trying to reason with him he just wouldn't accept he was in the wrong, so the tents had to be moved, but a number of other guests who had planned to camp there had to seek other arrangements elsewhere which was very inconvenient.He also didn't want any of the guests to park their cars in the agreed parking area in one of the fields, but then relented when pressed, but in general he seemed to go out of his way to make things as awkward as possible for us.I got in contacted with Airbnb on her behalf and after looking at the photos we took of the dirty mess the place was left in, they are giving her a refund of the $300 cleaning fee which we very much appreciate,I could go on and on about the very poor condition of this place but that would take too long, and my suggestion for anyone looking to book this place is to visit it and make sure you check out every corner before booking and have everything down in writing, and not just verbally...
